Notes on Web Making

3/21/2025

I've been thinking about making a website like this for a couple years now. Awhile back I made a website in the interest of expanding my resume and getting a job out of college. I got a job with no help from the website and that website became stale, old, and dusty. It's ugly, full of dead end self promoting links and conforms with many things I've grown to hate about the modern web. (P.S. that site may or may not be linked here if you do some quick digging)

It has been long overdue time for a refresh. Before starting this new project of mine I had no clue about Neocities nor its community of indie webmasters. I just had an idea to create a personal website inspired by sites of the 90s and early 2000s. A digital home for all the wild ideas bouncing around in my brain. Something that was mine, free from a corporate corner flooded with ads.

As I began looking for resources, I came across YouTube videos talking about the 'indie web' and personal sites on Neocities. As I went further down this rabbit hole, what I found was a beautiful community all engaged around the idea of a web built for the people.

Currently, this site is fairly bare bones... it has a home page with some info about me, a links page, a guestbook, and a games page with a game I made in college (reminder to self to make more silly little games). Oh and a blog page now! There's still so much to do. I'd love to keep utilizing this blog, start scanning and uploading my art, and create some media recs pages/shrines - just as a start. I'd also love to join, create, and grow communities that I've seen so cherished on other people's sites.

I've taken a snapshot of the page in its current state with the Wayback Machine to serve as a timecapsule and memento. Who knows how this place will look some time from now.
